Every season has its own story
Mallorca is an island full of moods - every season brings its own personal magic. I, Leandra Weber, have been working as a professional photographer in Germany for over 11 years. For almost 3 years we have also had a permanent location on Mallorca and offer regular shoots there. I have realised business portraits in spring, accompanied creative beach shoots in summer, implemented branding projects in the golden autumn and captured calm portraits in the clear winter light.
But when is the ideal time to book a shoot on Mallorca? That depends on your goal: are you looking for floral backgrounds, a summery holiday feeling, warm evening light, clear tranquillity or a special atmosphere? In this article, I share my personal experiences, examples, outfit tips and location recommendations - so that you can plan accordingly.
A comparison of the seasons: what makes them special?
| Season | Advantages | Disadvantages | Suitable for | Lighting conditions | Styling tips |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Spring | Almond blossom, fresh greenery, mild temperatures | Changeable weather | Nature portraits, romantic scenes | Soft light, partly cloudy | Layering, pastel colours |
| Summer | Spectacle of colour, Mediterranean lifestyle | Heat, lots of tourists | Lifestyle and holiday shoots | Hard shadows, ideal off-peak times | Airy fabrics, light colours |
| Autumn | Golden light, empty locations, early sunsets, pleasant climate | - | Business, Portraits, Nature | Warm light, soft shadows | Earth tones, natural materials |
| Winter | Peace, clear light, creative freedom | Weather change possible, cool | Branding, artistic projects | Golden hours, low sun |
Spring in Mallorca: almond blossom & fresh life
The months from January to March are magical: almond blossom everywhere, delicate pastel colours, vibrant nature. Booking a shoot on Mallorca now is particularly worthwhile for romantic scenes, couple portraits or outdoor lifestyle shots. The temperatures are pleasant (14-20 °C), the light is soft and flattering - perfect for relaxed sessions.
I recommend locations such as the almond groves near Santa Maria, fincas around Alaró or historic paths near Campanet. Layering in pastel colours works harmoniously in these surroundings.
Summer: Vibrant colours & Mediterranean energy
Summer is pure perfection - turquoise blue sea, radiant sun, Mediterranean holiday feeling. This time of year is ideal for anyone booking a shoot on Mallorca who wants a holiday atmosphere, vibrant colours or dynamic lifestyle images.
Moderate photography: It's better to shoot in the morning around sunrise or in the evening during the golden hours - the light is soft and romantic.
Favourite locations: Cala Llombards, Es Trenc, Cap de Ses Salines or Palma with its urban backdrop.
Outfit tip: Airy dresses, light-coloured fabrics, accessories such as straw hats.
Autumn: Soft light & photographic depth
Autumn is a secret favourite for me. The island is quieter, the light is warm and the shoot is more relaxed. Particularly pleasant: the sun sets early - often as early as 6 pm. Shoots are easier to plan and look wonderfully natural - ideal for business portraits and branding sessions.
Autumnal nature offers warm earth tones: ochre, gold, olive - an ideal colour palette for choosing outfits. Places like Fornalutx, Pollença or the gardens of Alfabia provide harmonious backdrops.
Winter: Clarity, calm & creative freedom
Winter is often underestimated, but it is one of my absolute favourite seasons - especially in November and December. The island becomes empty, the light is clear and golden, the temperatures are often mild (16-20 °C). It is therefore very popular with customers who like tranquillity and depth in their pictures.
The air seems clear, landscapes and mountains appear almost tangible - the light gives photographs an almost cinematic quality. Whether Palma, Deià or remote coasts - winter is ideal for creative concepts and emotional imagery.
If you want to book a photo shoot in Mallorca that brings a special depth to the picture, this time is unbeatable.
What my experience says - 11 years of photography
Spring: Plan flexibly - the almond blossom is limited in time, but intense.
Summer: Use the dawn or evening hours - the light is softer and more atmospheric.
Autumn: Business and branding customers appreciate the early evening hours - professional and convenient.
Winter (Nov/Dec): My personal favourite - tranquillity, clarity, mild temperatures, perfect light situations.
