Lake Carezza in the South Tyrolean Alps
Today we spent the day in the Dolomites at Lake Carezza. The beautiful Lake Carezza (Italian: Lago di Carezza, Ladin: Lech de Ciareja) is located below the Carezza Pass at the foot of the Latemar massif in South Tyrol. It is a protected natural monument.
About the lake
This small mountain lake is famous for its turquoise blue colour and the clarity of its water, which reflects the Latemar. Lake Carezza lies at an altitude of 1519 m above sea level and covers an area of 4 ha. Its maximum depth is up to 17 m, depending on the water level. Lake Carezza is considered one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in the entire Alpine region. At the lake there is a visitor centre with refreshment facilities and a subway through which visitors can reach the lake without barriers. The lake is most beautiful in the evening or early morning, when the crowds of tourists have not yet taken over the car park and the rocks are reflected in the crystal-clear water of the lake.
