Eibsee at the Zugspitze

Eibsee pictures: The early bird catches the worm - It pays to get up early... even on holiday! The Eibsee at the Zugspitze - In the morning twilight it is simply magical at any time of the year!

At least for enthusiastic photographers and drone pilots like us. In any case, this is also on the road often our motto, and as you can see from the pictures, Lake Eibsee has been part of our road trips through Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy at different times of the year. For us, the Eibsee is one of the most beautiful and impressive lakes in Germany.

The water of the Eibsee is crystal clear due to the melt water from the region around the Zugspitze. If I had to decide at which time of year it is most beautiful, I couldn't say. Whether it's winter or summer, Lake Eibsee always has a very special charm. In any case, it is worthwhile to be there at dawn, when the sun is just coming out from behind the trees for the first time. Because then you usually have the lake all to yourself and can perceive a particularly magical atmosphere. For photographers like us, this time is of course best anyway. A low position of the sun, like at sunrise time, is simply best for photography in terms of light. Even if it is sometimes difficult, early morning is actually our favourite time because the air is clear and there is that special feeling of a new day in the air.

Did you know that the eight islands of Lake Eibsee were formed by a landslide 3700 years ago? Completely cut-off bays and their own neighbouring lakes, such as Frillensee, were also formed as a result. Therefore, some depressions and the islands are geologically much younger than the lake basin itself, which sch formed at the end of the last ice age. This is a rarity and simply an absolute wonder of nature. Our drone images from a bird's eye view bring out this beauty once again.
