Tips from a photographer's perspective
The most important skill for the self-employed? A confident demeanour. Whether online or offline, a confident demeanour is a real game changer, especially when it comes to business. At every business shoot, I automatically observe the appearance of the people in front of the camera and am always fascinated by how many different expressions of self-confidence there are.
However, through years of experience in photography, some general guidelines have crystallised. So pay attention: Here are five tips that will help you to appear confident, regardless of the situation:

Self-confident appearance
- Self-acceptance: If you accept yourself, including your strengths and weaknesses, this is automatically reflected in your appearance. Self-acceptance is the cornerstone of self-confidence. Weaknesses turn into strengths as soon as they are accepted - you can only improve them by recognising them.
- Body language: mindfulness of posture. Thanks to my own voice training with Christina Hagedorn, I also know that a straight spine is the basis for deep breathing and therefore for a strong, confident voice. An upright upper body, paired with eye contact and an open smile, signals confidence and stability to other people.
- Preparation: Whether it's a presentation, an online or offline meeting, good preparation is crucial. The better the preparation, the better the presentation. This does not mean that there should be no room for spontaneity and improvisation. The basic structure of the conversation or presentation should be solidly researched and prepared - everything else is the individual touch of the moment.
- Communication: Speak clearly and distinctly. Listen actively and ask questions. Good communication strengthens your self-confidence and helps you to get your message across effectively.
- Practice and experience: Confident behaviour requires practice. Every situation brings us a little closer to our goal. This also applies if something doesn't go so well. In this case, there is definitely something that we have learnt and can therefore do better next time.
Not everyone is born with natural self-confidence, but everyone can develop it step by step. Self-confidence is a process that takes time and work. With these tips, nothing stands in the way of the learning curve.
