A look behind the scenes

Behind the scenes of a photo shoot: A look behind the scenes of a typical day at a photo shoot

“Lea, do you still have time for a personal brand shoot next month?” I often hear this question as a photographer. Most people only think about the actual shoot, but there's a lot more work behind a successful brand shoot than just the photography itself. In this article, you'll find out what really makes a photo shoot, what preparation and follow-up work is involved and why a professional brand shoot is an essential investment for your brand.

Preparation: the basis for a successful shoot

The day of a photo shoot begins long before the actual shoot date. The preparations are crucial to ensure that everything runs smoothly on the day itself. Before the camera is even used, everything is planned in detail in advance: This includes coordinating with the client, creating a mood board and selecting the right location.

Days or weeks before the shoot, I am in close dialogue with the client to understand their vision and plan the perfect look. We discuss what feeling the pictures should convey, which poses are desired and which outfits are suitable. This results in a clear concept that is realised on the day of the shoot.

I also think about the lighting conditions and how I can make the best use of them. Different times of day offer different lighting moods that give the pictures their special character. The choice of equipment is also made in advance: depending on the light, location and desired image style, I decide which camera lenses and accessories to use.

The shooting day: focus on realisation

On the day of the shoot, it's no longer about the planning, but about the realisation. I arrive at the location a little earlier to get a final overview and check the lighting conditions. Every location has its own peculiarities, and by checking early I make sure that we have the best possible starting situation for the pictures.

As soon as the client arrives, there is a short briefing to discuss the process and create an informal, relaxed atmosphere. A good briefing is crucial: it ensures that everyone involved knows what to expect and can get involved in the creative process. Creating the right atmosphere is a key factor - the more comfortable everyone feels, the more authentic and natural the images will be.

During the shoot, I guide the models through the poses and perspectives discussed in advance. The interaction between photographer and model is a dynamic process: good communication and the right timing are crucial for success. I always make sure to create a pleasant environment in which the model can move and express herself freely. A good "vibe" is the key to natural and expressive images.

Stops and breaks: time for feedback and adjustments

We always take time for breaks between the individual shots. These short breaks are not only important to take a deep breath, but also to review the results so far. We take a look at the previous shots and discuss whether any adjustments need to be made. This allows us to adjust the process directly if necessary and ensure that we get exactly the shots we want.

If several locations are planned, we travel from one place to the next. Whether in the old town of Palma, on a picturesque coastline or in a modern loft - each location offers a new opportunity to create unique photos. A photo shoot can last between 1.5 and 8 hours, depending on the package booked and the desired results.

Post-processing: creativity meets precision

After the shoot, another important part of the process begins: post-production. This is where the creative vision comes into play, adding the finishing touches to the images. Firstly, I select the best shots and sort the images that best represent the shoot.

When editing, I attach great importance to naturalness and authenticity. Each image is viewed and adjusted individually - be it through slight corrections to brightness and contrast or through the targeted accentuation of colours to enhance the mood of the moment. The aim is to edit the images in such a way that they emphasise the natural beauty of the moment and perfectly reflect the client's vision.

Behind the Scenes photo shoot - Behind the scenes

Photography is much more than just pressing the shutter button. It is a combination of detailed preparation, precise realisation and creative post-processing. Behind every picture there is planning, technique and a lot of passion to realise the client's vision. The "Behind the Scenes" view shows that every photo shoot is a journey - from the first conversation to the finished image that tells the story the customer wants.

Close collaboration, the right setting and a clear vision create images that are more than just snapshots - they are an expression and an experience in one. A well-planned and executed photo shoot not only creates great pictures, but also a connection between photographer, model and the viewer that, in the best case, will be remembered for a long time.

Brand photoshoot: More than just a photoshoot - the path to professional images for your brand

“Lea, do you still have time for a personal brand shoot next month?” I often hear this question as a photographer. Most people only think about the actual shoot, but there is much more work behind a successful brand shoot than just the photography itself. In this article, you will find out what really makes a brand shoot, what preparation and follow-up work is involved and why a professional brand shoot is an essential investment for your brand.

What is a brand photo shoot?

A brand shoot is much more than just a simple photo shoot. It is a targeted shoot that aims to showcase your brand, your business or you as a personal brand in an authentic and professional way. The aim is to visualise the core values and personality of your brand in order to build a strong connection with your target group. A brand shoot can be a decisive factor for entrepreneurs, freelancers, influencers and companies of all sizes when it comes to brand presence.

The underestimated work behind a fire photo shoot

While many only have the day of the shoot itself in mind, the majority of the work often remains invisible. As a photographer, I spend far more time behind the screen than behind the camera, because the preparation and follow-up of a brand shoot takes up much more time than you might think.

Photographer Frankfurt am Main Leandra Weber Photography

1. image selection: Spoilt for choice

After the brand shoot, the image selection process begins. This involves filtering out the best shots, a step that is often underestimated. The images are viewed, sorted and evaluated in Adobe Bridge. Depending on the scope of the package booked, this process can take between 1-2 hours. This phase is crucial, as only the best images make it to the next round and form the basis for the final result.

2. first editing in Lightroom: the creative finishing touches

Once the best images have been selected, the first step is to edit them in Adobe Lightroom. Here the images are cropped and the colours adjusted to give the customer a first impression of what the final images might look like. The time required for these adjustments varies depending on the size of the package and the customer's wishes, but is usually between 1 and 3 hours. Only after this initial processing are the images uploaded to a selection gallery from which the customer chooses their favourites.

3. detail work in Photoshop: perfection down to the smallest detail

The selected images are then opened for final editing in Photoshop. This is where the creative finishing touches come into play: skin retouching, correction of minor blemishes and adjustment of lighting moods are just some of the steps that make up this process. Depending on the extent of the retouching, this step can take between 1 and 2 hours, although there are no limits here either. Each image is processed individually to bring out the best and perfectly emphasise the brand message.

Before the shoot: the often forgotten location scouting

An important aspect that is often overlooked is choosing the perfect location. A brand shoot needs an environment that reflects the brand and creates the right atmosphere. That's why I invest a lot of time in location scouting. Especially in Palma, which is teeming with beautiful locations, it took me a good year to discover the best locations with the ideal lighting angles. Each location has its own charm and significantly influences the visual language.

Why are brand photo shoots so important?

A professional brand shoot takes your brand image to a new level. It is an investment in your public image that will pay off in the long term. Here are some reasons why a brand shoot is essential for you and your brand:

1. authentic representation of your brand
A brand shoot helps you to present your brand in an authentic and unique way. The images tell your story and convey your brand values in a way that words alone cannot achieve.

2. professional first impression
A professional first impression is crucial, whether on your website, in social media or in marketing materials. High-quality, consistent images ensure that you are perceived as an expert in your field.

3. more trust and identification
With a brand shoot, you create images that build trust and appeal to your target group. Potential customers will identify more easily with your brand if they can see who is behind the company.

Tips for a successful brand shoot

To make your photo shoot a complete success, there are a few points you should bear in mind:

1. clear objective
Think carefully in advance about the message you want to convey with the images. What do you want your target group to think about you and your brand? A clear objective is the key to a successful brand shoot.

2. matching outfits and props
Choose clothing and props that reflect your brand. The choice of colours and style should match your brand message and create a consistent look.

3. trust in the photographer
Rely on the expertise of your photographer. An experienced photographer not only has technical expertise, but also a flair for perfect staging. Be open to suggestions and let yourself be inspired.

A brand shoot is a comprehensive investment in your business that goes far beyond the day of the shoot. The preparation, selection and post-processing take a lot of time, but the result is authentic, professional images that show your brand at its best. Take the time to plan and realise this investment - it will help you strengthen your brand and set you apart from the competition.

Are you a doer? That's why it would be worth it!

Procrastination - How to go from procrastinator to doer

“Yes, I will.” And then - nothing happens. Does that sound familiar? Procrastination is a phenomenon that accompanies many people in both their professional and private lives and often causes frustration. But there are people who live exactly the opposite: the doers. They get to work, get things done and achieve their goals. In this article, I'll show you why it pays to be a doer and how you can overcome procrastination to get more out of your life.

What is procrastination and why is it so widespread?

Procrastination, often referred to as “procrastinationitis”, describes the repeated postponement of tasks even though we know that they need to be done. Instead, we occupy ourselves with less important things or allow ourselves to be distracted by the flood of possibilities. There are many reasons for procrastination: Fear of making mistakes, excessive demands, perfectionism or simply a lack of motivation.

But the consequences are clear: important tasks pile up, stress increases and we end up feeling dissatisfied. The result is a spiral that is difficult to break.

The opposite side: Being a doer - what does that mean?

A doer is someone who doesn't just talk, but acts. Someone who doesn't hide from challenges, but actively looks for solutions. In my life as a photographer, I have learned that the doer mindset is crucial - be it when organising a shoot or solving unexpected problems on location.

Being a doer means taking responsibility and acting proactively. It's about stepping out of your comfort zone and taking things directly into your own hands. This personality trait has served me well in both my business and personal life and helps me achieve my goals every day.

The advantages of being a doer

1. proactive problem solving instead of procrastination

Procrastination often allows problems to grow unnoticed. A doer, on the other hand, does not wait for challenges to disappear by themselves. They act as soon as a problem arises and actively look for solutions. This proactive approach leads to greater efficiency and productivity - two crucial factors that help us to progress both professionally and personally.

2. sense of responsibility as the key to success

A doer takes responsibility for their decisions and their results. Instead of looking for excuses or blaming mistakes on others, they reflect and analyse. This characteristic is essential in order to learn from mistakes and continuously improve. Procrastination, on the other hand, often leads to responsibility being avoided, which is detrimental to personal and professional growth in the long term.

3. innovative strength and flexibility

Procrastination often inhibits creativity and blocks new ideas. A doer, on the other hand, uses their innovative strength to solve challenges creatively - even under stressful conditions or when unexpected changes occur. As a photographer, I often find that things change spontaneously: The weather doesn't play ball, outfits don't fit as expected, or locations turn out to be unsuitable. In moments like these, my can-do mentality helps me to act quickly and flexibly and always find a solution.

Overcome procrastination: Tips for becoming a doer

Do you want to declare war on procrastination and become a doer yourself? Here are some tips to help you do just that:

1. set clear priorities
Procrastination often occurs when we feel overwhelmed. Set clear priorities and focus on the most important tasks. Write yourself a to-do list and work through it step by step instead of trying to do everything at once.

2. take the first step
The beginning is often the hardest part. Doers don't let that stop them, they just get started. Start with small tasks to get the ball rolling. Once you've started, it becomes easier to keep going.

3. reward yourself for progress
A reward system can help you overcome procrastination. Set yourself small goals and reward yourself for achieving them. This motivates you and creates positive associations with completing tasks.

4. consciously avoid distractions
Constant distractions such as your smartphone or social media encourage procrastination. Create a focussed working environment in which you are undisturbed and set clear times for breaks.

5. trust in your abilities
Self-doubt is often a trigger for procrastination. A doer trusts in their abilities and dares to take on new challenges. Believe in yourself and be prepared to learn from your mistakes.

Conclusion: Goodbye procrastination - become a doer!

Procrastination is a habit that holds us back, while the doer mindset moves us forward. Anyone can learn to be a doer by taking responsibility, being proactive and finding creative solutions. It takes courage and willpower, but the reward is worth it: more success, less stress and the good feeling of really getting things done.

How are you doing? Are you ready to leave procrastination behind and take control of your life?

Sedcardshooting - Behind the Scenes

Sedcard photography on Mallorca: A look behind the scenes

Today I'm taking you behind the scenes of sedcard photography on Mallorca.

My lovely client Pia booked a photo shoot on Mallorca again this year and we were able to achieve great results.

Sedcard photography is an important aspect for models, as the sedcard is their business card and shows clients and agencies their versatility and professionalism. A sedcard shoot produces photos that show the model in various poses and looks - from natural to elegant, from sporty to glamorous.

For Pia Bausch, an experienced bestager model, this shoot was an opportunity to refresh her commercial portfolio and showcase her versatility.

Who is Pia Bausch?

Pia Bausch works as a model throughout Germany and on Mallorca and has already worked for well-known brands such as Dachser Logistics, Merz Pharma, Lidl, biolog. Heilmittel Heel, Indoba Unternehmensgruppe and Nudecosmetics GmbH and many more. She is particularly in demand as a bestager model, as she brings experience and authenticity that go down well with clients and agencies. A professional photo shoot with current shots in various areas helps her to keep her portfolio up-to-date and versatile.

What is sedcard photography and why is it important?

Sedcard photography is a special shoot in which photos are taken for a model's sedcard. Sedcards are an essential marketing tool for models and contain various photos that show the different facets of the model. It serves as an initial reference for clients and agencies to get an idea of the model. Regular sedcard shoots are therefore important for models in order to always have up-to-date and professional photos that reflect their own style and, above all, the model's personality. Range of possible applications show.

Day 1: Photography in Valldemossa, Palma and on the beach

  1. Sedcard photography in the alleys of Valldemossa

We start the shoot in the picturesque alleyways of Valldemossa - deliberately at lunchtime, as the light here is ideal. The mixture of light and shadow in the narrow streets makes for atmospheric photos that are perfect for Pia's sedcard. Valldemossa offers an authentic backdrop that shows Pia in various white looks and dresses. Individual shots are taken here as well as couple shots with Pia's husband Oliver, who is on hand to support us on this day.

  1. Coffee break and lifestyle shots in Palma

After the first shots, we take a short coffee break in a small café in Valldemossa, which we also use for spontaneous lifestyle photos. Back in Palma, we use the charm of the old town to create commercial lifestyle shots. These versatile motifs are an important part of sedcard photography, as they show Pia's naturalness and spontaneity.

  1. Sports set under palm trees: dynamic sedcard photography

After an outfit change, we continue the sedcard shoot in the most beautiful park in Palma, where we photograph various sports looks under palm trees. Photography here means emphasising the dynamism and agility of the model. Supported by her husband Oliver, both individual and couple pictures are created here too, which emphasise Pia's sporty side. The sporty motifs are an important aspect of sedcard photography, as they show the model's versatility and agility.

  1. Sunset on the beach

At the end of the first day, we head to the beach for "Golden Hour". The soft, warm light of the sunset provides the perfect backdrop for sedcard photography. The atmospheric portraits and couple pictures created in this natural setting also complement Pia's sedcard.

Day 2: Sedcard photography - swimwear shoot on the rocky coast

On the second day, we meet again for a short sunset session on a rocky coast. The swimwear sedcard photography puts Pia in a new light. The rocky backdrop and the natural light provide ideal conditions for our shoot and help us to add fresh, summery motifs to Pia's sedcard.

Pia's perspective: Important factors in portfolio expansion

The sedcard photography on Mallorca was a complete success for Pia and me. The precise planning in advance, the choice of locations and also our flexibility during the shoot helped to achieve the best results. Pia particularly appreciates the fact that the sedcard photography was tailored exactly to her wishes and emphasised the versatility of her model profile.

Tips for successful sedcard photography

  • Organisation and preparation are crucialWell-planned sedcard photography ensures that everything runs smoothly. Packing bags help to keep the outfits organised and an extra bag for the current set is useful.
  • Don't forget your cateringLong shooting days require energy, so snacks and plenty of water are a must.
  • Support is valuableA helping hand to take care of organisational matters gives the model the freedom to concentrate on the shoot.

Conclusion: Sedcard photography on Mallorca

Mallorca offers perfect conditions for sedcard photography. The different locations, the natural light and the relaxed atmosphere make the island an ideal place to create versatile and professional sedcard images. Photography on Mallorca makes it possible to get the best out of the model and create a portfolio that impresses clients and agencies.

My TOP 10 restaurants in Mallorca

Best restaurants in Mallorca

As a photographer, I live half of my time on Mallorca, so I'm often out and about with clients and, of course, for private meals. I'm often asked for restaurant tips, and that's why I've created this list of my personal top 10 restaurants in Mallorca. Whether you are looking for a special place for a romantic dinner or simply a culinary highlight - here you will find a selection of the best restaurants that the island has to offer - although this selection was not easy for me, because Mallorca and especially Palma really has a lot to offer and there is still a lot for me to discover.

The best restaurants in Mallorca - my recommendations

1st Hotel Cappuccino Mama (Palma)

Cappuccino Mum is my absolute favourite in Palma, at any time of year. The restaurant is located right on the Plaza de Cort, the town hall square, and it's especially magical here at Christmas time. The square is so beautifully decorated that you feel like you're sitting under a canopy. The menu offers a mix of Mediterranean dishes, tasty coffee specialities and delicious cakes. It's the perfect place to take a break and watch the hustle and bustle of the city.

2nd Mar de Nudos (Palma)

Mar de Nudos is located directly on the harbour of Palma and offers a breathtaking view of the luxurious yachts and the open sea. The restaurant combines Mediterranean cuisine with Asian influences, resulting in an exciting and unique menu. Fresh seafood, sushi and creative cocktails make this place a special highlight for anyone who loves good food and a stylish atmosphere. It is always advisable to book a table here early enough.

3rd Japo (Santa Catalina)

Japo is a small, fine restaurant in the trendy Santa Catalina neighbourhood of Palma. As the name suggests, Japo offers Japanese cuisine of the highest quality. The sushi rolls are skilfully prepared and the selection of sake is impressive. This is where urban flair meets Asian cuisine - a must for sushi lovers, because it really is something special!

4th La Bodeguilla (Palma)

La Bodeguilla is a charming, cosy restaurant located in the old town of Palma. It combines Spanish tradition with a modern twist. The tapas are first-class and the wine list leaves nothing to be desired. The Iberico ham platters and fresh seafood are particularly recommended. The cosy atmosphere invites you to end the evening here. I prefer La Bodeguilla in winter, as it's really nice to sit indoors. Here, too, it is always advisable to book in advance.

5th Rooftop Es Princep Restaurant Almaq (Palma)

The Restaurant Almaq is located on the roof terrace of the luxury hotel Es Princep in Palma and offers one of the best views over the city and the sea. The cuisine is Mediterranean-inspired, with fresh ingredients and creative dishes. It is particularly beautiful here at sunset - a real insider tip for a romantic evening.

6th Mhares Sea Club Restaurant (Llucmajor)

The Mhares Sea Club is more than just a restaurant - it's an experience. Located directly on the rocky coast of Llucmajor, the restaurant offers breathtaking views of the turquoise sea. The cuisine is Mediterranean with a focus on fresh, local ingredients. The seafood and delicious paellas are particularly recommended. This is a wonderful place to relax and unwind. Regardless of the dinner and the marvellous sunset there, the beach club also invites you to linger during the day.

7th Selvatge (Selva)

Selvatge is located in the beautiful village of Selva on Mallorca and offers a relaxed atmosphere in a lovingly landscaped garden, where you will enjoy spending time. The cuisine is creative and focuses on fresh, seasonal ingredients from the region. Here you can enjoy delicious dishes that are simple and authentic, perfect for a cosy evening.

8th Chez Camille (Palma)

Chez Camille is a charming bistro known for its relaxed atmosphere and excellent cuisine. It is somewhat hidden away in Palma's old town, but that is exactly what makes it an insider tip. The menu changes regularly, but the French-Mediterranean influences are always noticeable. Perfect for a relaxed evening with friends or a romantic dinner evening.

9th Wine & Food (Palma)

Wine & Food is located in the centre of Palma's old town and is easy to get to - we go here very regularly, usually when we've just come from the airport. The restaurant offers a wide selection of wines and various Mediterranean dishes. There is definitely something for everyone here. The relaxed atmosphere and friendly service make it a place I like to come back to again and again.

10th Anssia Gastrobeach Club (Palma)

Anssia Gastrobeach Club is located directly on the beach and offers a fantastic view of the sea. Sushi fans in particular will get their money's worth here, as the sushi selection is great and super fresh. The relaxed beach atmosphere and high-quality food make this restaurant an ideal place to enjoy island life to the full.

the most beautiful places in Mallorca

Each of these restaurants has its own charm and offers something unique. Whether you are looking for a special place for a romantic dinner, a casual meeting place with friends or a culinary highlight - there is something for everyone on this list. Have fun discovering and enjoying - I will probably add a few more restaurants to this list in the future.

Content marketing for hotels

Content marketing for hotels

There is hardly an industry that can save itself from social media these days. According to a survey conducted by Stiftung Warentest in 2023, 43 % of Germans use the internet to search for goods and services. Incredible when you consider that the internet is barely 30 years old. This process is particularly evident in one sector: tourism and travel. Only 21 % of travellers still use personal advice in travel agencies - everyone else books online. This puts content marketing for hotels in a whole new light: hardly any guesthouse, regardless of whether it is a homestay or a 5-star hotel, can do without content marketing today.

In general, content marketing increases visibility online, improves the digital guest experience and creates clear differentiation from the competition. Effective use of content marketing for hotels helps to attract guests and increase bookings. In my experience, many professional groups are represented in hotel businesses. What they often don't have is a dedicated marketing department. That's why the production of this content is often outsourced to me. Nevertheless, those responsible in the team can do some of the magic themselves: This article summarises what to look out for.

What is content marketing actually?

Content marketing is a marketing strategy in which valuable, informative content is created and distributed in order to inspire a specific, clearly defined target audience. Ideally, the readers or consumers of the text, images or videos will sooner or later become paying customers. In contrast to traditional advertising, which often aims to directly generate sales, content marketing focusses on building relationships and maintaining a lasting bond with the audience.

In the hotel industry, content marketing can be used particularly well to trigger emotional reactions in target groups, increase brand awareness and thus possibly promote the conclusion of direct bookings. The biggest difference to advertising is that content marketing is not used to sell directly, but to slowly but sustainably inspire the audience.

This gives users the feeling that they are not being pushed, but rather enlightened and informed. Some of the most direct benefits for hotels are increased brand awareness through engaging content and more direct bookings by driving potential guests directly to the hotel page or other online booking channels. Around 70 % of travellers look to social media for inspiration - travel influencers, for example, collaborate with hotels to showcase them in their best light.

Target group analysis: the key to successful content marketing for hotels

A good target group analysis is crucial for successful content marketing for hotels (and in any other industry). How can you sell if you don't know to whom? The better the research, the more personalised the content is tailored to the exact requirements and needs of future guests. A hotel can reach specific clusters of people through good target group analysis: Business travellers, families, couples or luxury seekers.

Business travellers may be looking for information on conference rooms and business offers, families may be interested in child-friendly activities and couples may be looking for romantic getaways. Luxury travellers may be looking for exclusive offers and first-class accommodation. The needs, and thus the content that arouses interest, are fundamentally different.

Guest data and comments are invaluable for emotionalising the destination. Hotel companies should always make booking data, guest surveys and reviews available as openly as possible on social media and online. People still trust the experiences of others more than self-promotion. Guest feedback can also be incorporated into the content strategy to create content that is used and appreciated by target customers.

What kind of content is worthwhile for hotel marketing?

  • Blogposts

Are you planning your next holiday but don't know where to go yet and are actively looking for inspiration? You google for inspiration or for accommodation around your holiday destination. Identifying these keywords can make content marketing for hotels much easier - if blog posts about the holiday destination, the leisure options and your own offer are adapted to these keywords, the traffic will come organically from Google.

In order to perform well online and rank quickly, this type of content should be peppered with high-quality images that give readers a visual idea of the holiday destination. With the appropriate descriptions in the alt texts, which are essential for a successful SEO strategy, not only is the article visually emphasised, but organic traffic from Google is also attracted. Topics such as local attractions, insider tips and travel inspiration are particularly suitable.

  • Videos for social media

Google still favours content in text form. The situation is now completely different with social media: Here you can no longer avoid video content. For hotel content marketing, this can be virtual hotel tours, highlights of the surrounding area, staff interviews, guest experience reports or general travel tips. If approached professionally, the respective location can be presented from its best side. I am happy to support you with the planning and implementation.

Professional photography with images of rooms, facilities, events and surroundings also conveys the ambience of the hotel in an authentic way. Dynamic, short video content complements the hotel experience on social media and the website. Working with a professional photographer and videographer ensures quality and consistency in the visual content.

  • E-mail marketing

The easiest way to sell is to happy customers. Collecting email addresses for the newsletter should be at the centre of every hotel marketing campaign. Newsletters with special offers, seasonal tips and personalised recommendations flutter directly into the inboxes of people who associate the hotel with their last relaxing holiday. Supplemented with great pictures, the regular updates can easily turn the positive memories into the next holiday.

Tips and tricks for content marketing for hotels

Marketing strategy is definitely easier said than done. From my experience working with hotels, I know that social media is only worthwhile if there is someone who is responsible and takes care of it in the long term. Digital marketing is a marathon, not a sprint. Creating and posting content once doesn't achieve much. You have to take a long-term approach and continuously interact with the community.

Content marketing should be seen as a long-term strategy to strengthen the brand and increase bookings. I support hotels in the continuous creation and optimisation of content, with a particular focus on professional visual content, in order to assert themselves in the competitive environment in the long term.

Checklist - What belongs to standard image processing
9 September 2024

Image editing before and after: What is standard image editing - and what is not?

In my career as a photographer, I have heard many surprising and sometimes funny editing requests. AI has certainly added a lot of ideas about what is possible these days. When it comes to image editing, especially with before and after comparisons, it is often expected that every wish can be fulfilled with just a few clicks. Whilst I am happy to fulfil many customer requests, there are also things that are often taken for granted but are not. Even "simple" image editing can take several hours, depending on the effort involved.

To avoid any misunderstandings, I would like to explain here what standard image editing involves and what goes beyond it. Of course, I'm talking about my scope of services here - every photographer can deal with the topic of image editing differently. So here is my checklist so that you know exactly what you can expect when it comes to image editing:

Image editing before and after at Leandra Weber Photography

Which is part of standard image processing:

✅ Colour selection for the images: Colour selection plays an important role in image processing. Suitable colours are selected that ideally match the customer's current brand colours. This step is an important part of the editing process to achieve the desired look.

✅ Sharpness, cuts & contrasts: Standard image editing involves optimising sharpness, image sections and contrasts. The aim is to get the best out of every image and achieve a professional before-and-after result.

✅ Removal of skin impurities and small wrinkles: For a fresh look, the removal of skin blemishes and, if desired, small wrinkles is part of standard image editing. The aim here is to preserve the natural expression and get the best out of the image.

✅ Removal of distracting objects in the background: Another typical task in image editing is the removal of distracting elements in the background, such as people, traffic signs or other distractions. These interventions help to direct the focus onto the main subject.

Image editing before and after at Leandra Weber Photography

Image editing before and after - which is not part of standard image editing:

❌ Customisation of clothing: The adjustment of non-fitting outfits is not part of the standard image processing. We recommend carefully selecting and trying on outfits before the shoot. Image editing can do a lot, but ill-fitting clothing is not always easy to correct.

❌ Converting brightly coloured garments into other colours: Colour changes to items of clothing are also not standard. It is advisable to choose the right colour before the shoot. If support is required, stylists can be recommended.

❌ Changes to the make-up: Changing the make-up is also not part of standard image editing. Good preparation is the be-all and end-all for a successful shoot. On request, I am happy to recommend professional make-up artists who will create the perfect styling before the shoot.

❌ Extreme remodelling of the face: While minimal adjustments in the image processing before and after are still acceptable, extreme changes to facial features are not part of my work. I see myself as a photographer, not a digital plastic surgeon 😉 The aim is to preserve the authenticity of the person.

❌ Insert other backgrounds: The choice of shooting location should be carefully considered in advance in order to create the perfect backdrop. Adding other backgrounds afterwards is not part of standard image editing and often looks artificial.

❌ Figure retouching à la -20 kilos: Major changes, such as a drastic reduction in body size, are not part of standard image editing. While small adjustments are possible, such editing goes far beyond what I offer as a photographer. The aim should always be to show the person as they really are - not a distorted version of them.

Image editing before and after at Leandra Weber Photography

In my work, it is extremely important to me to preserve the authenticity of my clients. I want them to be recognised in my pictures as they really are - even in a before and after comparison. If there are special editing requests that are not part of standard image editing, an external retoucher can be commissioned. However, this is then associated with additional costs.

I hope this checklist gives you a clear insight into what can and can't be expected during the "before and after" image editing process. Good preparation and open communication are the key to a successful shoot - and to a great result during image editing!

The most beautiful places on Mallorca: my top 5 sunset spots
7 September 2024

The most beautiful places in Mallorca

One of my favourite things to do as a photographer is to explore new, beautiful places on Mallorca in my free time - preferably at sunset time. The warm light of the setting sun gives the island a magical atmosphere that inspires me every time. As I spend half of every month on Mallorca and do a lot of shoots there, clients, friends and acquaintances keep asking me which places are a must-see and where you can enjoy the most beautiful sunsets.

It wasn't easy to choose the top 5, as Mallorca offers a multitude of beautiful places that make every sunset an unforgettable experience. But after numerous visits and countless photos, I have found my favourite spots. Here are my top 5 sunset spots on Mallorca that you should definitely visit.

1st Cap de Formentor

1 Cap de Formentor Cap de Formentor in the north of Mallorca is a real classic and for many the most beautiful place on the island to enjoy the sunset. The rocky coastal landscape, the steep cliffs and the striking lighthouse at the end of the peninsula offer a scenery that is perfect for special photos. The light just before sunset makes the rocks glow in warm colours and creates a beautiful and mostly clear atmosphere. In summer, access for private cars is only permitted until 8 a.m., after which shuttle buses run to the lighthouse. However, it's worth getting up early, as the sunrise at Cap de Formentor is a real experience. In winter, you have the road to yourself all day - ideal for experiencing this beautiful view in peace and quiet.

Approach from Palma: The journey takes around 1.5 hours. Take the Ma-13 towards Alcúdia and then follow the winding Ma-2210 to the Cap.

2nd La Trapa - hike included 😉

La Trapa is a beautiful spot in the west of Mallorca that is particularly popular with hikers. The old monastery ruins are located high above the sea and offer a magnificent view of the island of Sa Dragonera off the coast. The hike to the ruins leads through a varied landscape with pine forests, narrow paths and small viewpoints, from which you have a great view of the sea along the way. Once you reach the top, you can enjoy the peace and quiet and experience the sunset in a relaxed atmosphere. When the sun sinks behind Sa Dragonera and the sky turns shades of pink and orange, the moment is perfect - one of my absolute favourite places to spend the evening. How to get there from Palma: You drive about 40 minutes via the Ma-1 to Andratx and on to Sant Elm. The hike starts there and takes about an hour. The path is not difficult, but good footwear is advisable. Plan a little time to enjoy the sunset in comfort at the top. I think it's advisable to have some stamina for the hike 😉 It's quite steep uphill from time to time.

3rd Mirador des Balconet

The hidden viewpoint The Mirador des Balconet in Cala Blava, also known as Pujador des Frares, is a real insider tip for anyone who wants to enjoy the sunset in peace. Here you will find a small, inconspicuous viewpoint with a sweeping view over the bay of Palma. Especially in the evening, when the sun slowly sets behind the city, you will experience a very special atmosphere here. I have experienced by far the clearest sunsets here, especially in the winter months. A special highlight is a visit to the nearby Cap Rocat Hotel, which is perfect for a sunset dinner. Here you can round off the day and enjoy the beautiful play of colours over the bay. Tip: It's worth booking very early 😉 Travelling from Palma: You can reach Cala Blava in around 20 minutes via the Ma-19 motorway. You can park right next to the viewpoint, which is just a short walk away.

4th Mirador Islas Malgrats

A view of unspoilt nature The Mirador Islas Malgrats near Santa Ponça offers you a wonderful view of the small, uninhabited Malgrats islands that lie off the coast. This viewpoint is a great place to end the day, especially at sunset. The light of the setting sun makes the rocky islands glow and creates a calm, peaceful atmosphere that is perfect for relaxing and simply savouring the moment. A few benches have even been set up at the viewpoint, making it a wonderful place to linger. The viewpoint is easily accessible and often uncrowded, making it an ideal place if you want to experience a quiet and relaxed sunset away from the crowds. How to get there from Palma: You can reach the Mirador Islas Malgrats in around 25 minutes via the Ma-1 towards Santa Ponça. The viewpoint is located just outside the city centre and is well signposted. There are car parks nearby, so you can easily manage the short walk.

5th Mirador Sa Foradada

A magical place For me, Mirador Sa Foradada is also one of the most beautiful sunset spots on Mallorca. The famous rock with the hole in the centre offers a special backdrop that seems almost surreal. When the sun slowly disappears behind the rock and the play of light begins over the water, the moment is simply wonderful. Locals and visitors meet here to enjoy the sunset with a picnic or a glass of wine - the atmosphere is relaxed and the setting is unique, although this spot is very crowded in summer. Access from Palma: The journey takes around 45 minutes via the Ma-1110 towards Deià. The Mirador is located near the Son Marroig estate. There are car parks along the road, but it can get crowded, especially at sunset time.

the most beautiful places in Mallorca

Mallorca is full of beautiful places that unfold their special magic, especially at sunset time. Whether steep cliffs, secluded beaches or cosy viewpoints - the island offers an incredible variety of places that are worth discovering. As a photographer, I am very lucky to be able to experience and capture these moments time and time again. The most beautiful places on Mallorca are not only perfect photo opportunities, but also wonderful places to come to rest and enjoy nature to the full. I hope my tips will inspire you to get to know this beautiful corner of the world at its best.

Whether for frequent travellers like me or occasional travellers who want to make the most of their holidays, the card has something for everyone. In this post, I would like to share the benefits of this card, especially with regard to hotels, car hire, business class flights and the use of business lounges at airports.

1. exclusive benefits in luxury hotels worldwide

One of the biggest advantages of the Amex Platinum is the access to the Fine Hotels & Resorts Programme. This programme offers an impressive selection of luxury hotels worldwide. The best part is the additional amenities you get when you book through American Express. These include:

  • Room upgrades (if available): I personally love being able to upgrade to a better room or even a suite without having to pay extra.
  • Guaranteed late check-outThis is particularly practical if my flight doesn't leave until the evening and I want to enjoy the day in peace by the pool or in the city.

For me as a photographer, this means that I can often stay in the best hotels without breaking the budget. The advantages that the American Express Platinum have sweetened my stay countless times and enhanced my journey.

One of the first major advantages that caught my eye at the time was the Amex Platinum welcome bonus. This bonus helped me to collect valuable points right at the start of my membership, which I could immediately redeem for flights, hotels or hire cars.

But it's not just the welcome bonus that is attractive. Every time I use the card, I collect points that I can use for almost any travel expense. Whether it's a domestic flight, a hotel stay in a new city or even an experience like a guided tour - the flexibility is great!

Whether it's a discount on the purchase of photographic equipment, cashback for hotel bookings or discounts with car hire companies - the Amex Offers help me to make additional savings.

Photographer Frankfurt: What you should consider for your professional photo shoot in the Main metropolis

As a photographer in Frankfurt, I have carried out many professional photo shoots for business clients and self-employed people in recent years. The metropolis on the Main offers a unique backdrop for the Business photographybe it in front of the skyline, in modern office buildings or in the charming streets of the old town. However, there are a few important aspects to consider to make your shoot a success. In this article, I will give you a comprehensive overview of what makes a successful business shoot and how you can best prepare for it.

1. why a professional photo shoot is crucial for your business

A professional photo shoot is much more than just a few nice pictures. It is an investment in your brand and your company. Especially in a city like Frankfurt, one of the most important financial centres in Europe, your visual appearance can make all the difference. The way you and your company are presented in photos reflects your professionalism, your values and your expertise.

Advantages of a business shoot:

  • First impression: In the business world, first impressions count. High-quality, professional photos immediately convey competence and trust.
  • Branding: Professional photos help to communicate your brand clearly and consistently. They are the figurehead of your company, whether on the website, in brochures or on social media.
  • Recognition: With customised business photos, you can ensure that your customers and partners immediately recognise and remember you.

2. the right location in Frankfurt for your business shoot

Frankfurt offers a variety of locations that are ideal for a professional photo shoot. Choosing the right environment is crucial to conveying the desired message. As a photographer in Frankfurt, I know the best spots and can help you find the perfect location for your shoot.

Possible locations for photo shoots in Frankfurt:

  • The skyline: Nothing symbolises Frankfurt as much as its imposing skyline. The skyline is the perfect backdrop for modern, dynamic business photos.
  • Office buildings and conference rooms: If you want a classic and professional atmosphere, modern office buildings and conference rooms are ideal. Here you can present your working environment authentically. We are also happy to make recommendations when you book a business shoot.
  • Old town and banks of the Main: For a more traditional look, head to Frankfurt's Old Town or the banks of the River Main.

Tip: Think in advance about what kind of message you want your photos to convey and choose the location accordingly.

3. preparation for the professional photo shoot

Thorough preparation is the key to a successful Business photo shoot. Here are some tips to help you prepare optimally:

  • Choice of clothes:
Your clothing should match the occasion and the message of your company. Suits and suits in muted colours are suitable for formal business portraits, while casual clothing is also an option for more creative industries. Make sure your clothes are clean and well ironed to make a neat impression.
  • Hair and make-up:
A professional look is essential. If possible, have yourself styled by a professional. There are numerous hairdressers and make-up artists in Frankfurt who specialise in business clients. Remember that natural make-up can also look good - it should just look neat and professional.
  • Punctuality:
Time is money, especially in business. Arrive at the shoot on time to avoid stress and to get in the mood for the shoot.
  • Preparation for the process:
Think about which poses and scenarios you would like to have photographed. Think about different poses for different applications - for example portraits for the company website, team photos for social media or situational shots in the office.

4 The importance of light and timing

The right light is crucial to the success of a photo shoot. As an experienced photographer, I know how important it is to make the most of natural light or to use artificial light if necessary.

Natural light sources:
Frankfurt offers many opportunities to utilise daylight effectively. The morning and evening hours are particularly suitable for outdoor photography, as the light is soft and flattering. The golden hour - the time shortly after sunrise or shortly before sunset - is ideal for atmospheric, warm photos.

Artificial light:
In interiors, especially in office buildings, natural light can sometimes be insufficient. Here I use professional studio equipment to optimise the lighting and achieve the desired effects. Whether soft light for portraits or hard light for more dramatic shots - I adapt the lighting to your individual needs.

Tip: Allow enough time for the shoot to try out different lighting conditions and achieve the best results.

5. trust in experience and expertise

A professional photo shoot requires not only technical skill, but also a good feel for people and situations. As a business photographer, I have years of experience in working with companies and the self-employed. My aim is not only to provide you with beautiful pictures, but also photos that represent your company authentically and professionally.

Why you can trust my expertise:

  • Personalised advice: Every company is unique. I take the time to understand your vision and your goals and plan the shoot accordingly.
  • Professional equipment: I work with the latest camera and lighting technology to offer you the best possible quality.
  • Dedicated service: From the first meeting to the final image selection, I am at your side with help and advice. It is important to me that you feel well looked after throughout the entire process.

6. post-processing and final presentation

Once the photos have been taken, the post-processing begins. Here too, I attach great importance to quality and precision. Post-processing is a crucial step to ensure that your photos look professional and flawless.

What you can expect from post-processing:

  • Retouching: Small irregularities are corrected without losing the naturalness of the photos. The aim here is to achieve a perfect yet authentic result.
  • Colour correction: The colours are optimised to make the images look fresh and lively, matching the look of your company.
  • Image selection: I will help you choose the best shots that best represent your brand.

Tip: Talk to me in advance about your wishes and expectations for the post-processing. This way I can ensure that the result is exactly what you want.

5. why outdoor photo shoots are more authentic

For me, the true charm of a Outdoor photo shoots in the authenticity that this type of photography offers. While a studio often feels sterile and artificial, there are countless variables outside that make the shoot lively and unique. Wind, sun, clouds - they all contribute to each shot telling its own unique story.

The unpredictability of nature is what makes outdoor photography so special. It's the small, unexpected moments that often produce the best photos - a sudden smile, a gust of wind that moves the model's hair or a ray of sunlight breaking through the clouds.

6. conclusion: Outdoor photo shoot - a creative adventure

A Outdoor photo shoot is more than just a photographic technique - it is an experience. The ability to work with natural elements creates photos that are authentic, vibrant and full of energy. Whether for portraits, family photos or business shots, outdoor photography offers countless creative possibilities that you simply won't find in a studio.

With the right techniques and a little planning, you can ensure that your outdoor photo shoot is successful and that you get exactly the pictures you had in mind. Nature offers us photographers an endless variety of inspiration - it's up to us to utilise it.
