SEO for photographers - tips for your success

In an increasingly digital world, high-quality images are crucial for websites and online presences. However, photographers are often faced with a major challenge: how can images be optimised so that they are not only aesthetically pleasing, but can also be found by search engines? This is where image SEO comes into play. Alt texts and file names play a key role in increasing the visibility of images in search engines and improving the user experience.

What are alt texts and why are they important?

Advantages for search engines

Alt texts, or alternative texts, are short descriptions that explain the content of an image. Search engines like Google cannot "see" images - they rely on alt texts to understand the context of an image. This has a direct impact on rankings in Google Image Search.

  • Greater visibility: Images can be better indexed with relevant alt texts.
  • Keyword integration: Well-written alt texts offer the opportunity to place keywords in a meaningful way.

Accessibility and user experience

Alt texts are not only important for search engines, but also for accessible websites. Screen readers use alt texts to describe the image content to visually impaired users. A clear and precise description significantly improves the user experience.

The importance of file names - SEO for photographers

How Google analyses file names

Google uses file names to better understand the content of images. A generic file name such as "IMG1234.jpg" provides no indication of the image content. On the other hand, a descriptive name such as "sonnenuntergang-am-meer.jpg" can help to increase the relevance of an image for certain search terms.

Practical examples of SEO-optimised file names

  1. Before: DSC0001.jpg
  2. Afterwards: wedding-berlin-castle-charlottenburg.jpg

A descriptive file name should contain the following:

  • Relevant keywords
  • No special characters or spaces (use of hyphens)
  • Clarity and precision

Technical SEO for photographers

Image compression and loading times

High-resolution images can significantly slow down the loading time of a website, which has a negative impact on the ranking. Tools such as TinyPNG or Adobe Photoshop help to reduce the file size without visibly affecting the quality.

Tip: Aim for a maximum file size of 100 KB per image.

Responsive design and mobile optimisation

As more and more users are surfing on mobile devices, it is essential to optimise images for different screen sizes. This can be achieved with responsive design techniques and the use of CSS Media Queries can be achieved.

Creation of effective alt texts

Best Practices

  1. Describe the content precisely: What does the picture show?
  2. Be specific: Avoid general statements such as "Bild123".
  3. Integrate keywords of course: But don't overdo it.

Example:

  • Bad: "Picture of a dog"
  • Good: "Golden retriever playing in the park in the sunshine"

Avoid common mistakes

  • Keyword stuffing: Excessive use of keywords.
  • Empty alt tags: Images without alt texts remain invisible to search engines.
  • Misleading descriptions: Write alt texts that correctly reflect the image content.

The power of keywords in image optimisation

Research for relevant keywords

A solid keyword is the key to an effective SEO strategy - and this also applies to images. Photographers should research which terms users are searching for in their niche. Tools like Google Keyword Planner or Ubersuggest can help to identify relevant keywords.

Example:
A wedding photographer from Munich could use the following keywords:

  • "Wedding photographer Munich"
  • "professional wedding pictures"
  • "Wedding photography Bavaria"

The integration of these keywords in alt texts, file names and the surrounding texts increases visibility in Google searches.

SEO for photographers - application in alt texts and file names

After the keyword research, it is important to use the terms strategically. It is important that keywords are integrated naturally to avoid keyword stuffing.

Alt text example:

  • Bad: "Picture of a bridal couple"
  • Good: "Bridal couple at sunset on Lake Starnberg - wedding photographer Munich"

File name example:

  • Before: IMG_456.jpg
  • Afterwards: wedding-photographer-muenchen-starnberger-see.jpg

Strategic organisation of images

Use of folders and structured URL

A well-organised website not only helps users, but also search engines. Photographers should organise their images in thematic folders, e.g:

  • /weddings/
  • /portraits/
  • /landscapes/

The URLs should also be clear and descriptive. For example:

Building a personal brand - step by step

Building a personal brand - step by step to visibility

Personality is a brand. The fact is that your expertise is interchangeable in most cases. Whether you are an IT specialist, marketing expert or coach, there is always someone who offers the same service as you. Maybe even better at it.

An infinite number of providers of the same service can be found on the Internet with just one search query. So what makes you and your offer unique? Exactly: your personality. You are the biggest sales factor you have. People come to you because you build your personal brand - and today I'll show you how that works.

Step-by-step guide to building a personal brand

You know what a personal brand is and why it is so important for online visibility. Reminder: You put yourself as a person at the centre of your marketing strategy. This puts your offer, but also your personal values, centre stage. I don't want to keep you in suspense - so let's get straight to the point. Building a personal brand: Your step-by-step guide.

  1. Self-analysis: Who are you, what are your values and how do you want to be perceived?

The better you know yourself and your values, the better your audience can get to know you. The bottom line: people trust you. Before you launch your personal brand, you should ask yourself some very basic questions. Personal branding is not about inventing a new version of yourself, but about consciously emphasising your authentic personality and values.

    • What are my strengths and talents? What can you do that others admire?
  • What are my weaknesses? The things you might be able to hand in later.
  • What do I want to stand for? What values do you want to convey?
  • How do I want to be perceived? As creative, structured, inspiring?
  • What is my core offering? What is the one offer that should always be associated with you?

This is your foundation - and you build everything else on this foundation: your content, your visual identity and your communication. Because: people don't buy products or services, they buy trust. And this trust is created when your brand is honest and consistent.

A little tip: write all these points down. You'll be surprised how clear your picture becomes when you see it in black and white.

2. target group analysis: Understand who you want to reach and what your target group expects from you.

Now that you know who you are and what you stand for, the next important question comes: Who are you actually doing all this for? Your personal brand will only be successful if it appeals to the right people - your target group.

    • Who are these people? Age, interests, values - what makes them tick?
    • What problems or wishes do they have? And how can you help?
  • Are they aware of their problem or do you need to make them aware of it? Your content may enlighten or reinforce.
  • Where are they staying? LinkedIn, Instagram or rather offline?
  • Why are they on the respective platform? Do you want to learn or just be entertained?

The more precisely you know your target group, the more precisely you can design your content and your communication. After all, the best content is useless if it appeals to the wrong people.

My tip: Think of your target group as an Friendin front of the person you are talking to.

3. visual identity: Photos, colours and design as central elements of your brand.

Now it's visible: Your visual identity is the first impression your target group gets of you. You are unique, we've already said that. Your images are just as unique. Ideally, these images, just like other visual elements on your channels, should be unmistakably associated with you. Images, colours and design often tell your story faster than words can. So the question is: How do people recognise you at first glance?

  • Professional photos: They are the foundation of your visual presence. Your business portrait should not only look professional, but also authentic and likeable.
  • Uniform colours and design: Your colour scheme must suit you and be consistent across all channels - from your website and social media to your sedcard.
  • Distinctive elements: A certain style, a logo or even a striking choice of clothing can be part of your recognition value.

Your visual identity is not just "nice to have" - it is your trademark. It makes you unmistakable and ensures that your target group remembers you.

My tip: Work with professionals who understand you and your vision and who can show you as you really are.

4. consistency: Uniformity and consistency across all platforms (social media, website, portfolio)

A strong personal brand thrives on recognition. And this is only possible if you are constantly present. Your target group should recognise you straight away - whether on LinkedIn, Instagram or your website. The question is: How long can you hold out?

There is no list of questions, but a fact: social media is a marathon, not a sprint. You don't have to be present every day. But every other day. You don't have to post every day. But you do have to answer messages and actively engage in acquisition. This is the only way to make real connections and the only way to sell.

SEO for WordPress: How to optimise your website

SEO (search engine optimisation) is the key to more visibility on the internet - and WordPress offers you the perfect basis for this. Thanks to its flexibility and numerous plugins, you can optimise your website so that it is easier to find on Google and other search engines. But how exactly does SEO for WordPress work and which steps are really important? In this article, you will get an overview of the most important basics, practical tips and the next steps to get your website on the road to success.

What is SEO for WordPress and why is it important?

SEO for WordPress means designing your website technically and in terms of content in such a way that search engines can optimally understand it. With a well-optimised website, you can:

  • Attract more visitors who are specifically looking for your content.
  • Improve your position in the search results.
  • Save time and money in other marketing areas in the long term.

WordPress is SEO-friendly by design, but to utilise its full potential, some adjustments are necessary.

Seo for WordPress

The most important basics of SEO for WordPress

1. create a technical basis

Before you start optimising, you should make sure that your website is working properly from a technical point of view.

  • Fast loading times: Use a caching plugin such as WP Rocket and compress images with tools such as TinyPNG or ShortPixel. Loading times of more than three seconds deter visitors and are rated negatively by Google.
  • Mobile optimisation: Use the Google Mobile-Friendly Test to check whether your site is displayed correctly on mobile devices. Over 50 % of internet users now access the internet via smartphones.
  • SSL certificate: Make sure your website runs over HTTPS to build trust and avoid being penalised by Google. Many hosting providers offer a free SSL certificate.

2. structure and navigation

A clear website structure not only helps your users, but also search engines:

3. create XML sitemaps

An XML sitemap helps search engines to better understand your page structure. Most SEO plugins such as Yoast SEO or Rank Math can generate these sitemaps automatically. Make sure that all important pages are included in the sitemap and that no unnecessary URLs are displayed.

4. minimise error pages

Error pages such as 404 can affect the user experience and send a negative signal to Google. Use tools like Screaming Frog to find and fix such errors. Also create a user-friendly 404 page that leads visitors back to relevant content.

Content optimisation: The core of a successful WordPress website

1. the right keyword strategy

Keywords are the starting point for any SEO strategy. Use tools such as the Google Keyword Planner, Ubersuggest or Seobility to find out which terms your target group is searching for.

  • Target your main keyword: Place it in headings (H1, H2), the introduction and the meta description.
  • Add long-tail keywords: These specific search queries, such as "best restaurants in Frankfurt", attract users who are looking for specific information.

2. create appealing meta tags

Meta titles and meta descriptions are the first thing users see in search results.

  • Meta title: Short, concise and with your main keyword. For example: "SEO for WordPress - The best tips for optimisation".
  • Meta description: Describe in one sentence what the user will find on your site and arouse interest.

3. publish high-quality content on a regular basis

A blog is a great way to provide fresh content and show Google that your website is active.

  • Write articles that offer real added value, such as instructions, checklists or inspiration.
  • Use images, infographics or videos to add variety to your content.

4 Use the power of headlines

H1, H2, H3 and H4 headings are not only important for readers, but also for Google. They structure your text and help the search engine to better understand the content.

5. customise content for the target group

Make sure that your texts are both informative and easy to understand. Use short paragraphs, bulleted lists and relevant examples to keep your readers' attention.

Plugins that make your life easier

WordPress offers numerous plugins that can make your work easier. Here are a few examples:

  • Yoast SEO: This plugin gives you specific tips on how to optimise your content - from keyword placement to readability. The traffic light system is particularly helpful, showing you whether you have done everything right.
  • Rank Math: An alternative to Yoast with advanced features such as keyword tracking and advanced SEO analyses.
  • WPML: If you operate your website in several languages, this plugin supports SEO optimisation for international markets.

Important do's and don'ts for SEO for WordPress

Do's:

  • Update your content regularly, especially old blog articles.
  • Monitor your SEO performance with tools such as Google Search Console or Ahrefs.
  • Use schema markups to give Google additional information about your content (e.g. reviews or FAQs).

Don'ts:

  • Avoid keyword stuffing - the excessive repetition of keywords is penalised by Google.
  • Do not copy content from other websites. Duplicate content harms your ranking.
  • Avoid overloaded designs that slow down the loading time of your website.

Why SEO is a long-term investment

SEO is not a sprint, but a marathon. It takes patience, time and continuous optimisation to see results. But the benefits are worth it:

  • You reach your target group exactly when they are looking for your services.
  • You build trust and authority in the long term.
  • You make yourself independent of expensive advertising campaigns.

Checklist: 7 essentials for your personal brand

7 essentials for your personal brand - your checklist from the personal brand photographer

For some people, personal branding just looks outrageously simple. A presence on the web is not just a presence on the web. With this checklist and me as your personal brand photographer at your side, nothing will stand in the way of your online success. Let's go!

Surprise, surprise: I also go through this list again and again to review my positioning and marketing and realign it if necessary. So this article is not only aimed at newbies, but also at experienced ones!

Dr Harsha Gramminger at the personal brand photo shoot with Leandra Weber on Mallorca

1. clear positioning:

Your personal brand starts with a simple question: What do you want to be known for?

  • Find your niche: Think about which specific problems you can solve or which topics particularly characterise you.
  • Define your USP (Unique Selling Point): What do you do differently or better than others?
  • Stay focussed: It is better to be an expert in one area than to get bogged down.

Example: Instead of "coach for personal development", position yourself as an "expert in stress management for managers".

2. target group insight:

You will only be successful if you approach the right people.

  • Who do you want to reach? Age, profession, interests - build a clear picture of your target group.
  • Language and sound: Speak in a language that your target group understands and that matches the reality of their lives.
  • Needs and wishes: What drives your target group? What problems do they have that you can solve? What really hurts them?

Pro tip: Use tools such as surveys or analytics to gain an even better understanding of your target group's preferences.

3. visual identity:

Your visual identity often decides in just a few seconds whether people stay with you or keep scrolling.

  • Photos, colours, fonts and layouts - all this makes your brand recognisable.
  • Uniformity: Your branding should look the same on all platforms - from your website to social media.
  • Professional images from a personal brand photographer are a big plus - a good first impression convinces you too, doesn't it?

4. authentic storytelling elements:

People love stories - and your story makes you unique.

  • Why do you do what you do? Share the motivations behind your business. Combine facts (your expertise) with emotions (your motivation).
  • Personal insights: Tell us about challenges you have overcome or moments that have shaped you.
  • Connecting emotions: Show not only your results, but also how you got there.

Example: Instead of just showing a final product, I tell you how much passion and challenges some shooting projects need to be realised.

5. social media presence:

Social media is your tool to be visible and accessible.

  • Standardised look on LinkedIn, Instagram and your website.
  • Recognition and trust through consistent content.
  • Hang in there: If you rely on inbound marketing, you need to be consistently active for 9 to 12 months to receive the first enquiries.

6. content strategy:

Content is the bridge between you and your target group.

  • Topics: Choose topics that demonstrate your expertise and offer added value for your target group.
  • Regular postings and active interaction. Both in comments and in DMs.
  • Content strategy: Top, mid and low-funnel content for texts that convert.

7. continuity:

Personal branding is a process, not a one-off project.

  • The development of a personal brand is a Marathon, not a sprint.
  • Stay tuned and constantly optimise your content. Even if it takes time - consistency pays off in the long term.
  • Your Analyses are worth their weight in gold. A monthly review will help you to keep improving!

Personal brand photographer: This is how important your pictures are

Your social media presence is your marketing magnet. The better and more professional it appears, the more likely people are to approach you on their own initiative. I'm not going to tell you any marketing stories here: It takes time to build your expert status from social media. It doesn't matter whether we're talking about Instagram, LinkedIn or Facebook.

What I can promise you, however, is that professional images are at least a small shortcut. Depending on what you stand for with your personal brand, you need your own visual language. As a personal brand photographer in Frankfurt, I will take you into the corporate world. If you are in the IT, consulting or business coaching sector, the glass facades there are the perfect backdrop for you.

As a personal brand photographer Mallorca, I put your personal brand in the sunny light of the Mediterranean island. Artists, coaches and personal brands from the marketing sector benefit from Mallorca's laid-back vibe. Diverse backdrops such as beaches, historic towns and breathtaking rock formations show you and your personal brand at your best. You can find out more about the best shooting spots on the island here on our blog!

Example of personal brand photography Mallorca

As an example, here is a current photo project from Mallorca - personal branding at its best.

During the all-day photo shoot with the lovely Dr Harsha Gramminger in November, the island rewarded us with a summery atmosphere and a pleasant 25 degrees even in late autumn. Even in early winter, I still find perfect conditions for personal brand shoots here. Just one of the reasons why I chose Mallorca as my second home.

The whole shoot was geared towards supporting Harsha's personal brand with make-up artist and a whole handful of outfits with various visuals for website and social media. We went to some of my favourite locations on the island. A shooting day like this is work, but somehow it's also free time. After all, I move from favourite spot to favourite spot.

Her approach: When we nourish our body well, our mind stays in the here and now. The result: optimal performance. As a medical practitioner specialising in Ayurvedic consultations, she takes a holistic view of people and offers individual ways to achieve better health in everyday life. To this end, she offers one-on-one coaching sessions, lectures and online courses - all with heart and mind.

Business portraits: Which location suits you and your brand?

Business portraits: Which location suits you and your brand?

The choice of location is one of the most important factors when it comes to business portrait photography. The environment in which your business portrait is created not only influences the aesthetics of the images, but also the message they convey. Do you want to radiate seriousness? Emphasise creativity? Or show your authenticity?

In this article, we'll look at the pros and cons of different locations such as studio, outdoor and your workplace. I'll also show you why Palma de Mallorca and Frankfurt are two of the best locations for business portraits and how they can help you present your brand perfectly.

Why is the location so important for business portraits?

Business portraits are more than just photos - they are an important part of your personal and professional brand image. The right location can:

  • Strengthen your brand: The environment should reflect your values.
  • Create emotions: A well-chosen background speaks directly to your target group.
  • Show professionalism: Well thought-out details in the image composition make a big difference.

A business portrait without careful planning of the location often looks flat and arbitrary. The choice of setting should therefore always be strategic so that it harmonises with your message.

The photo studio: the classic and safe setting

Why choose a studio?
  • Perfect control: Studios offer a fully controlled environment. Lighting, backgrounds and set can be precisely customised.
  • Timelessness: Neutral backgrounds are not distracting and ensure that the photos do not become outdated quickly.
  • Efficiency: Everything is on site - there are no disruptions due to weather or unexpected situations.
Ideal for you if...
  • you want a classic and serious look.
  • your focus is on professionalism and clarity.
  • you need photos quickly and easily.
Possible challenges
  • Studios can sometimes seem impersonal.
  • Without the right style, the result can appear stiff.

Outdoor: creative, authentic and lively

Why outdoor business portraits are my personal favourite
  • Natural light: The soft, natural colours of daylight create a pleasant atmosphere.
  • A wide range of options: From urban chic to nature - the choice is huge.
  • Personalised style: Outdoor locations give your images an individual touch that can be perfectly matched to your brand.
Ideal for you if...
  • you want to show creativity and dynamism.
  • you prefer modern and fresh images.
  • your brand should appear open, approachable and human.

What you should bear in mind

  • The weather plays a decisive role - a plan B should always be available.
  • The location should be well thought out and match your look so as not to be a distraction.

In the workplace: pure authenticity

Why the workplace is a perfect location
  • Show where the magic happens: Customers get an insight into how and where you work.
  • Strengthen your brand identity: Your working environment is a reflection of your values and your brand.
  • Personal connection: Photos in your familiar surroundings look authentic and trustworthy.
Ideal for you if...
  • you want to give your customers an honest look behind the scenes.
  • you work in a creative industry that benefits from its working environment.
  • you want to be photographed in your everyday life to capture the working atmosphere.
The challenges
  • Not every workplace is optimally lit or tidy enough for a shoot.
  • Additional preparation time is required to set the scene in the room.

Palma de Mallorca: A perfect backdrop for business portraits too

Palma offers a unique variety of locations that are perfect for business portraits:

  1. The old town: its narrow streets, the warm colour palette of the buildings and historical details create an elegant and stylish atmosphere.
  2. Beaches and coasts: The beaches and harbour of Palma are ideal for a relaxed, modern look. They convey lightness and creativity.
  3. Luxurious locations: Exclusive boutique hotels or stylish villas offer a first-class setting.

What makes Palma so special:

  • The Mediterranean light is ideal for soft and natural images.
  • The inspiring environment ensures authenticity and elegance - perfect for brands that want to combine professionalism and creativity.

Frankfurt: modernity and urban style

Frankfurt is the heart of the German business world and offers numerous opportunities for portrait photography in the business sector:

  1. The skyline: The skyscrapers and urban flair are perfect for images that convey innovation and dynamism.
  2. Historic corners: squares such as the Römer or the Alte Oper provide elegant contrasts and radiate tradition.
  3. Business hotspots: Modern co-working spaces or offices offer a professional and contemporary atmosphere.

Why Frankfurt convinces

  • The combination of tradition and modernity makes the city unique.
  • Its central location makes it ideal for national and international customers.

How do you find the right location?

1. your brand decides

Think about the message you want to convey:

  • Serious and classic? Studio recordings are perfect.
  • Creative and lively? Outdoor locations offer variety.
  • Personal and approachable? Your workplace tells your story.

2. combine different locations

Sometimes a mixture makes all the difference. For example, a classic portrait in the studio combined with relaxed outdoor shots for social media.

3. plan in advance

  • Consider weather conditions for outdoor shoots.
  • Make sure that the workplace for photos is tidy and flooded with light.
  • Test different setups to find the best look for your pictures.

The location makes the difference

Choosing the right location is crucial for the impact of your business portraits. Whether studio, outdoor or workplace - every location has its advantages and can be the perfect stage for you and your brand.

With my locations in Palma de Mallorca and Frankfurt, I offer you two of the best starting points for authentic and professional business portraits. Let's find the ideal location for your look and your message together.

The magic of still life photography

Still life photography - insights into the art of the quiet moment

Still life photography has its origins in painting and encompasses the artistic depiction of still objects. It is a genre that not only conveys tranquillity and beauty, but also leaves plenty of room for creativity. Whether everyday objects, natural materials or architectural details - still life photography captures the charm and elegance of the everyday.

In this article I would like to share my experiences with still life photography, especially in connection with a special project that I recently carried out for my client Christian Weilert. It was about the photographic accompaniment for his website, which sets special accents in the area of fashion as well as in the area of calm, expressive still life images.

Still life photography by Leandra Weber in Palma de Mallorca

What is still life photography?

Basically, still life photography is about breathing life into inanimate objects. The photographer arranges various objects or finds them in nature and uses light, shadow, perspective and composition to showcase them in a special way. Unlike portrait or landscape photography, there is no movement here - the subject is static, but the aim is to give it a story.

A typical still life can consist of fruit, flowers, everyday objects or architectural details. There are countless ways to play with shapes, colours and structures. The choice of background and lighting also play a decisive role, as they influence the overall character of the picture.

My project for Christian Weilert

Christian Weilert is an experienced tailor who specialises in high-quality, made-to-measure clothing. On his website christianweilert.de he presents his exclusive collection and his customised suits and shirts. His focus is on the combination of craftsmanship, quality and individual style, offering his customers perfectly customised clothing.

For a new project, I was commissioned to take still life photos of Palma in addition to fashion shots, which would serve as filler material between his fashion photos.

Having focused little on still life photography in recent years, I was presented with an exciting opportunity to rediscover the city of Palma through the lens in a calm, unagitated way. The challenge was to capture spontaneous, authentic images that reflect the charm and aesthetics of Palma, without the people and vibrant life in the foreground.

The creative process behind my still life shots

For this project, I went for a walk through Palma one evening - camera in hand and with the aim of capturing spontaneous moments. It wasn't about creating perfectly staged scenes, but rather about searching for the small, quiet details that are often overlooked in the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

I began by capturing architectural elements such as old doors, windows and the characteristic facades of the old town. These motifs tell their own story and are typical of the city's Mediterranean flair. But nature should not be neglected either. I found the palm trees and the play of light on the water, which was given a special atmosphere at dusk, particularly fascinating.

Important tips for successful still life photography

If you want to get into still life photography yourself, there are a few important points that can help you create appealing images:

1. the right light: Light is one of the most crucial elements in still life photography. Natural light is often best, especially in the early morning hours or during the golden hour in the evening. The soft, warm light gives the pictures a special depth and prevents harsh shadows.

2. composition and perspective: The arrangement of the objects in the picture and the choice of perspective play a major role. Think about what message you want to convey with your picture and how you can arrange the objects so that they tell a story.

3. colours and textures: Colours and textures are also crucial. A monochrome still life can fascinate with interesting structures and light accents, while a colourful arrangement comes to life through the combination of different materials and surfaces.

4. less is more: It is often enough to focus on just one or two objects. In still life photography, it is important to avoid unnecessary distractions and concentrate on the essentials.

Palma de Mallorca

Technical aspects of still life photography

In addition to the creative aspects, technique also plays an important role. For still life shots, I recommend using a camera with manual settings so that you have full control over the exposure and focus. A low ISO setting ensures clear, low-noise images, while a low aperture (high f-number) keeps the entire scene in focus.

A tripod can be helpful to keep the camera stable, especially in poor lighting conditions or with longer exposure times. This prevents camera shake and allows you to concentrate fully on the composition and the light.

Still life photography - more than just filler material

Even though still life photos are often used as filler or complementary shots in a larger context, they offer the opportunity to capture the beauty of the everyday in a unique way. For Christian Weilert's website, it was particularly important that the images not only fill a gap, but add value and support the atmosphere of Palma in his fashion shots.

The project showed me how much potential there is in still life photography and how it can radiate a special calm and serenity, even in a city as lively as Palma.

Conclusion

Photography offers endless opportunities to harmonise creativity and aesthetics. Whether in nature, at home or in an urban environment - there are objects everywhere that are worth capturing photographically. The art lies in seeing the special in the ordinary and bringing it to life in a picture.

Personal brand tips

9 personal brand tips for your business

Everyone is talking about personal brands these days. If you ask the marketing industry, a personal brand is the only real way to achieve long-term success on social media. At least if you define success in terms of impressions, followers and sales figures. The term is used across the board, but what is a personal brand really? Christine Schneider, a German artist who, like me, lives in Mallorca, is a great example of this.

As a personal brand photographer, I have been working for years with people who sell products and services through their simple presence on social media. This article looks at the secret behind this seemingly easy strategy and explains how personal branding really works. It also ends with my best personal branding tips - from my own experience and from working with strong personal brands.

Personal brand tips

What is personal branding?

Before we dive into lengthy descriptions, a simple example: Kim Kardashian. JLo. Lady Gaga. All of these women are artists, but also strong personal brands. Most of us have automatic associations with each of these names. Kim Kardashian stands for glamour, luxury, social media presence and the creation of a billion-dollar beauty and fashion empire. Jennifer Lopez (JLo) embodies success, sporty chic and an unrivalled career as a singer, actress and entrepreneur. Lady Gaga is immediately associated with creativity, the courage to be different, provocative style and an enormous influence on pop culture and social justice.

These women have managed to define their personality and style so clearly that their names evoke images and emotions worldwide. This is exactly what personal branding is: the strategic development of a personal brand in which an individual positions herself like a company. A brand consists of a clearly defined identity, values and a unique message that is communicated through consistency and authenticity across multiple channels. Personal branding is about using these elements in such a targeted way that associations with certain qualities and competences are anchored in the minds of the target group. A challenge that Christine Schneider has mastered with flying colours.

branding photography by Leandra Weber Photography

About Christine Schneider

Christine is an artist, interior designer and nature lover. Like me, she lives between Germany and Mallorca, after a medical diagnosis of "terminally ill" 23 years ago prompted her to finally follow her dreams. The artist draws her inspiration from interior design, fashion and nature. Both her art and her interior design follow simple, minimalist lines. With elegant, timeless and sculptural elements, her art creates spaces that feel like authentic homes for her clients. Creating beautiful things always brings a smile to her face - an underlying creative cheerfulness that is reflected in all her work, just like her deep connection to the universal force of origin.

Christine consciously seeks quiet harmony and avoids loud colours. Her preference for natural and soft colours such as beige and brown creates calm, minimalist compositions that captivate with their attention to detail. Excitingly, this is also reflected in her clothing style, which forms a unity with her artworks. This was particularly exciting for me as a photographer - a holistic brand design that appears again and again not only in branding colours, but also in Christine's work and natural surroundings.

The shoot with Christine in Mallorca in September also resulted in some very special pictures for me. As a mixture of lifestyle and business shoot, we travelled to various locations together. Thanks to her uniform clothing style, the pictures actually correspond exactly to Christine's personal brand - a result that we created together almost effortlessly, in contrast to other shoots.

You can find her on Instagram at @christineschneider.art.

Personal brand tips: How personal branding works

With strong personal branding, many self-employed people avoid the nerve-wracking task of customer acquisition. Anyone who is known to the audience for a service or product automates so-called inbound enquiries: people approach you independently to buy without any acute advertising measures. Christine shows us a personal brand that presents itself coherently and consistently. But how do you get there? Here are my best personal branding tips for you!

  • Self-analysis and goal setting

Think about what you want to stand for. What are your strengths, values and unique skills? What message do you want to convey? Define clear goals: What do you want to achieve with your personal branding (e.g. new customers, professional positioning, expert status)?

  • Define target group

Determine exactly who you want to address with your personal brand. What needs and interests does your target group have? Your content and messages should be aimed at these specific people. A solid target group analysis is the basis for the content you will publish.

  • Develop a unique value proposition (USP)

Formulate what makes you unique and why someone should choose you. Your "Unique Selling Point" (USP) is the centrepiece of your brand and helps you stand out from the competition. In my case, this is my very specific image style for personal branding photography: my presence on LinkedIn ensures that my images reach people who resonate with them. The community then stands with many comments as a sign of trust, and people contact me directly for a shoot.

  • Define visual and verbal identity

Develop a consistent visual style (colours, fonts, logo, profile pictures) and a clear language. Your visual and linguistic appearance should be consistent and reflect your brand in all channels to create recognition. Christine is a great example of this recognition value - her colours are recognisable everywhere.

  • Establish an online presence

Optimise your social media profiles (e.g. LinkedIn, Instagram) and create a personal website or portfolio. These platforms serve as a central point of contact for your target group and should clearly communicate your brand message. Start with one platform and don't try to use everything at the same time. Once one channel is up and running, you can expand.

  • Consistent content creation

Regularly share valuable content that demonstrates your expertise and appeals to your target group. This can be blog articles, social media posts, videos or podcasts that support your topics, values and messages. Provide real added value that helps your followers, but also insights into your personal life. There are many who offer a similar service, but you are unique as a person.

  • Networking and increasing visibility

Take an active part in conversations, comment on relevant posts and build targeted relationships. The more visible you become in your network, the more your personal brand will be recognised. Create a database of comment buddies and potential customers. Check them regularly to stay present.

  • Obtain and adapt feedback

Listen to your target group's feedback and regularly evaluate how your brand is perceived. Adapt your strategy and content to ensure that you always remain authentic and relevant. Your personal brand grows with you.

  • Long-term consistency and patience

Stay tuned! Personal branding is not a one-off process, but requires constant maintenance. Stay consistent in your appearance, content and messages and continuously build your brand. Not every post will go viral, but your perseverance will pay off.

For a uniform presentation across all channels, you need good image material. The more professional, the better. The shoot is in line with your personal branding - even better! Sooner or later, you will definitely need a professional shoot - if you want it to take place on Mallorca or in Frankfurt, I will be happy to support you!

How corporate influencers strengthen their brand
11 October 2024

How corporate influencers strengthen their brand (through visual storytelling)

Influencer has been an official job title since 2008. At that time, fashion and cosmetics brands used individuals with a wide reach to present their products to as many people as possible, particularly via Instagram. Since then, the profession has developed in many directions. Companies have also recognised that employees with a wide reach in the new media can bring considerable benefits for the corporate culture. The term: corporate influencer.

Corporate influencers convey a company's image to the outside world via social media. Much of this works through visual storytelling. Professional but authentic image content shows everyday working life and thus conveys an attractive image to future employees, business partners and the press. As a photographer in Frankfurt as well as on Mallorca, I often deal with companies that make targeted use of the reach of their employees.

C-levels that have actively integrated the concept of the corporate influencer into company structures also end up in my shoots from time to time. Melanie Kleemann, Retail Executive and expert for digital transformation, has experienced the trend of corporate influencing at large companies such as IKEA and P&C at first hand - and revealed the secrets of their success to me.

What is a corporate influencer?

A corporate influencer is an employee of a company who represents the company on social media and communicates its values, products or services to the outside world. Content from an "insider's perspective" comes across as more authentic and genuine than traditional advertising. Even if employees present their thought leadership without specific references to the company's values or products, this falls under corporate influencing. Platforms such as LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram are used to provide insights behind the scenes, share expertise or represent the corporate culture. In contrast to external influencers, corporate influencers work directly within the company, making communication particularly authentic through direct integration into the company's day-to-day operations.

By building a personal brand within the company, such corporate influencers help to strengthen the company's image and reach, build trust with the target group and attract both potential customers and new talent. One example would be Satya Nadella, who uses LinkedIn and other platforms to provide insights into Microsoft's corporate culture. Through his authentic communication about leadership and technology, he embodies Microsoft's values and thus strengthens the brand from within.

Corporate influencers use storytelling by sharing personal stories from their day-to-day work that give an insight behind the scenes of the company. Through their individual experiences and perspectives, they bring their brand values to life - and this requires image and video material that is both professional and authentic.

About Melanie Kleemann

Melanie has built an impressive career in the retail sector, characterised by her strategic and operational expertise in turnaround situations and business transformations. For over a decade, she has successfully planned and implemented customer-centric digital transformations at C-level for international companies such as IKEA, Vorwerk and P&C. Her passion extends far beyond digitalisation: her collaborative new leadership focuses just as strongly on engagement as on co-creation by and with customers and employees.

Melanie has been working as an Executive Interim Manager and Senior Advisor throughout Europe since April 2024 and brings her extensive experience to the strategic leadership and support of transformative projects and initiatives. Melanie knows exactly what is important when building a personal brand as a corporate influencer. The public perception of a company can benefit enormously from corporate influencers - if the following points remain in focus.

Portrait photographer Frankfurt

1. authenticity

Today, we are bombarded with input from all sides. Life and consumption are getting faster and faster. Bright colours and motivating slogans are no longer enough to positively shape a corporate image. People long for real stories - which is why authentic expression is the most important point that corporate influencers need to take to heart.
Corporate influencers strengthen the trust of the audience through precisely these personalised presentations. This applies to both text and visual content.

2. create emotional connections

Emotions play a central role in marketing. In a figurative sense, this is exactly what corporate influencers do - they market their company. Compared to text, visual content such as images and videos appeal more directly to emotions and are therefore remembered for longer. Corporate influencers who specifically use visual storytelling to share personal stories and experiences reach their target group more easily and quickly.

Behind-the-scenes videos in which employees provide authentic insights into their work and corporate culture are a clear example. Such emotional content has a stronger impact than facts, skills and success stories. There is also room for mistakes and learning curves, which not only make every brand more tangible, but above all more human.

3. consistency across all channels

There is often not just one channel, but several. Just as all starting points of the customer journey should merge into a uniform experience in modern omnichannel companies, corporate influencers should also appear uniformly across all channels.

Just as with personal branding, the same rules apply here: consistent colours, image styles and slogans (ideally in addition to the company) on platforms such as LinkedIn and Instagram communicate brand values clearly and coherently. This visual recognition strengthens credibility and increases brand awareness for both the individual and the company, as it firmly anchors the brand image in the minds of the target group.

4. digitalisation as a superpower for corporate influencers

Everyone and everything is talking about AI. These and other innovative technologies are also expanding the possibilities of visual storytelling for corporate influencers. Innovative technologies such as augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR) and artificial intelligence (AI) tell even more immersive and interactive visual stories.

One example is the use of AR, which could enable Melanie Maas-Brunner from BASF to transform complex chemical processes into understandable and exciting 3D experiences. Companies benefit from these technologies with brand messages that sustainably increase the attention and engagement of target groups in a novel and captivating way.

5. visual storytelling of the corporate values

Visual storytelling not only communicates corporate values, but above all brings them to life. For this content to be truly convincing, it must be seamlessly aligned with the brand values and identity of the company. This requires a clear line in collaboration and communication. Tobias Krüger from the Otto Group demonstrates this impressively by not only describing the company's cultural change, but also making it visually tangible.

He uses authentic videos and images of internal workshops, team events and new working models to show how change is actually lived within the company. Through this visual content, he conveys how Otto is developing into a modern, agile company that focuses on innovation, collaboration and an open corporate culture. This makes the abstract concept of "cultural change" tangible and understandable for viewers.

6. measure impact: KPIs and ROI

Melanie Kleemann puts it in a nutshell: visual storytelling is useless if you don't measure what works and what doesn't. Important KPIs such as engagement, reach and conversion rate help companies and their corporate influencers to analyse the impact of their content. By using analytics tools, they can continuously adapt and optimise their strategy and thus drive ROI and brand development in the long term.

Authenticity, emotional connections, consistency and the use of modern technologies are the key elements for successful visual storytelling for corporate influencers. Strategic investment in corporate communication strengthens companies in the long term - and if you need support with this, a professional shoot in Frankfurt am Main is the ideal starting point. Thanks to Melanie for the valuable insights!
