The 10 best poses for photos with business clients

Poses for photos can be varied and therefore very challenging. However, business photos are an important part of your professional presence, be it on your website, LinkedIn or other marketing platforms. On flyers and posters for companies or personal brands, too, the quality of the image often makes the difference in the first few milliseconds. Choosing the right pose can have a significant influence on precisely this effect. With many years of experience in business photography, I have compiled the best poses here. Whether you want to look professional, casual, convincing or active - you'll find the right pose for every business in this list.

1. the classic business pose

An upright posture with folded arms radiates self-confidence and authority. This is ideal for managers and entrepreneurs. Simply rehearsed in front of the mirror, this is the pose that also embodies competence in everyday working life. A straight spine and an open chest convey confidence and competence, and not just in a photo shoot.

2. the friendly welcome

A slight bow and a smile show openness and friendliness. This is well suited to customer advisors and sales staff. A second person can often be cropped into the picture here too, turning their back to the camera.

3. the dynamic working posture

Being photographed in action, such as typing on a laptop or discussing documents, conveys commitment and willingness to work. This is perfect for creative professionals and freelancers. Designers also like to be photographed with their Mac, artists in front of an easel or singers with a microphone. Depending on the occupation, it is appealing to pose in action.

4. the counselling pose

With your arms open and a smiling expression on your face, you look inviting and ready to work together. This is well suited to counsellors and coaches who work directly with clients. Especially in the profession of therapist, the aim here is to convey inviting yet professional competence.

5. the conference participant pose

Stand in a group of people who are engaged in a discussion. This shows teamwork and networking skills. Ideal for networking experts and team leaders, but also for companies that want to showcase themselves and their team qualities.

6. the presentation pose

With a microphone in your hand and a motivated expression on your face, you come across as professional and inspiring. If you lead seminars and workshops, photos from the presentations will score particularly well.

7 A classic pose for photos: The thinker pose

With your finger on your chin and a thoughtful look, you convey intelligence and strategic thinking. This pose can be performed both sitting and standing and looks equally professional in both options.

With a glass or cup in your hand and a casual smile, you come across as sociable and communicative. This is ideal for entrepreneurs and business developers.

9. the writing pose

With a pen in your hand and a concentrated look at a document, you appear focussed and productive. Whether you are a writer or content creator, the core of the activity is brought to the fore here, similar to the dynamic working posture.

10. the gratitude pose

Show gratitude and appreciation with folded hands and a warm smile. This is a great pose for team leaders and managers to express their appreciation for their team.

The right pose can significantly influence the impact of your business photos. Remember that authenticity is key to making a genuine connection with your audience. Whatever pose you choose, make sure it matches your personality and professional message. With the right pose, you can further strengthen your professional presence on LinkedIn and other platforms. Of course, it's also my job as a photographer to guide my clients into optimal poses during the shoot.

Nevertheless, a little practice beforehand doesn't hurt to be able to call up the right poses for photos quickly.
